About

The finished piece is only part of the story.

Press Clay Studio is a membership for ceramic artists who want to preserve the work behind the work—the sketches, experiments, glaze tests, firing notes, discoveries, and decisions that shape every piece.

Because what happens between the first idea and the final object is where a creative practice is truly formed.

IDEA TO OBJECT

Every project begins somewhere: a sketchbook page, a glaze curiosity, a photograph, a form worth exploring.

As the work moves through the studio, it changes. Clay is altered. Surfaces evolve. Firings surprise. Lessons emerge.

Press Clay Studio keeps every stage connected in one searchable record, transforming scattered notes and forgotten photos into a living archive of your creative practice.

Brand Story

Ceramic work is a process of constant transformation.

An idea becomes a sketch. A sketch becomes clay. Clay changes as it dries, shifts in the kiln, and returns carrying lessons you could never have predicted at the start. Along the way are hundreds of small decisions—materials chosen, forms altered, glazes tested, problems solved, discoveries made. Too often, that knowledge disappears once the piece leaves the studio.

Press Clay Studio exists to preserve the story behind the work. More than a gallery of finished objects, it is a living record of creative practice. A place where inspiration, process, experiments, notes, results, and reflections remain connected, revealing not just what was made, but how it came to be.

Why Press Clay Studio Exists

The name reflects the purpose.

Press is the act of giving shape to an idea and preserving it for the future. It evokes recording, publishing, documenting, and making knowledge visible.

Clay is both the material and the medium of transformation—the substance that records every touch, decision, and experiment.

Studio is where practice becomes progress. A place of repetition, exploration, failure, discovery, and growth.

Together, Press Clay Studio is a home for the complete creative record of ceramic work.

Mission

To make the invisible process behind ceramic work visible, searchable, and worth returning to.

What We Believe

Every piece carries a history

The finished object is only the visible result. Behind every form are sketches, tests, adjustments, failures, discoveries, and decisions that shaped what it became. That knowledge deserves to be kept, not lost.

Creative practice is built one experiment at a time

Progress rarely arrives all at once. It emerges through repetition, curiosity, and hundreds of small refinements. The work is not separate from the process—the process is the work.

Knowledge should stay with the maker

A glaze breakthrough, a firing adjustment, a construction solution, an unexpected result—these moments become more valuable when they can be revisited, connected, and built upon over time.

Documentation should support making, not interrupt it

Studios are active places. Notes are quick. Photos are imperfect. Projects remain unfinished for weeks. Press Clay Studio is designed to fit naturally into the rhythm of creative practice.
